Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about VerWater — the world's first Water Supply + Wastewater Treatment platform.
General
What is VerWater?
VerWater is a free web-based engineering platform for designing water supply and wastewater treatment systems. It is the world's first and only platform to combine both Water Supply distribution design and Wastewater Treatment process design in a single application — with built-in Thai PCD standards.
Is VerWater free to use?
Yes. All calculators, design tools, and process models are currently free to use without login or registration. Premium features such as project save/load, PDF report generation, and API access will be available as a paid subscription in the future.
Who is VerWater for?
VerWater is designed for environmental consultants preparing EIA reports, industrial engineers managing factory wastewater, municipal engineers operating city water/wastewater plants, and university researchers and students in environmental engineering courses.
Technical Features
Does VerWater support Thai PCD standards?
Yes. VerWater is the only engineering software with built-in Thai Pollution Control Department (PCD) standards: surface water quality (Classes 1-5, Announcement B.E. 2537), effluent discharge standards (Types A, B, C), and drinking water standards. No manual conversion needed.
What process models are available?
VerWater supports IWA standard models: ASM1 (Activated Sludge Model No.1, 13 components, 8 processes), ASM2d (Biological Phosphorus Removal for enhanced nutrient removal), and ADM1 (Anaerobic Digestion Model for biogas production prediction). All include steady-state simulation and sensitivity analysis.
How does the Water Supply module work?
The Water Supply module includes a Hardy-Cross network solver for looped pipe network analysis, headloss calculations (Hazen-Williams, Darcy-Weisbach, Manning), pipe sizing with Thai standard sizes and velocity constraints (0.3-2.5 m/s), pump curve analysis with affinity laws, water quality modeling (chlorine decay, water age), and tank/pump station design.
What treatment units are available in the Wastewater designer?
The Wastewater Treatment Designer includes 15 unit processes: Bar Screen, Grit Chamber, Primary Clarifier, Aeration Tank, SBR, UASB, MBR, DAF, Oxidation Pond, Trickling Filter, Oil Separator, Filtration, Chlorination, UV Disinfection, and Coagulation-Flocculation. Each calculates removal efficiency, sizing, cost, and sludge production.
What is the NSF Water Quality Index (WQI)?
The NSF WQI is a standardized method developed by Brown et al. (1970) using a Delphi consensus of 142 water quality experts. It evaluates water quality on a 0-100 scale using 9 parameters: Dissolved Oxygen, BOD, pH, Temperature Change, Fecal Coliform, Nitrate, Phosphate, Turbidity, and Total Dissolved Solids. VerWater implements the full NSF WQI with proper interpolation curves.
What is the 13 Industry Auto-ID feature?
VerWater can automatically identify wastewater type from COD/BOD ratio. It covers 13 industry types: Domestic (ratio ~2.0), Food Processing (2.2), Brewery/Beverage (2.5), Dairy (2.3), Meat Processing (2.8), Textile (3.5), Pulp & Paper (3.0), Chemical (4.0), Pharmaceutical (3.8), Petroleum (5.0), Electroplating (5.5), Tannery (4.5), and Laundry (2.7). Based on Metcalf & Eddy (2014).
Comparison with Other Software
How does VerWater compare to GPS-X or BioWin?
GPS-X ($10K-15K) and BioWin ($2K-2.5K/year) handle only wastewater treatment. VerWater combines wastewater treatment PLUS water supply design in one platform — something neither competitor offers. With Thai PCD standards, NSF WQI, and 13 industry auto-ID built in, VerWater provides capabilities these tools lack at a fraction of the cost.
How does VerWater compare to WaterGEMS or WaterCAD?
WaterGEMS/WaterCAD by Bentley ($3K-9K/year) handle only water supply distribution. VerWater includes EPANET-compatible hydraulic analysis (Hardy-Cross solver, pipe sizing, pump curves) PLUS complete wastewater treatment design. It also adds Thai PCD drinking water standards that Bentley products lack.
Can VerWater replace EPANET?
VerWater's Hardy-Cross solver is EPANET-compatible and handles common pipe network analysis tasks. For basic to intermediate hydraulic analysis, pipe sizing, and water quality modeling, VerWater can serve as a modern web-based alternative. EPANET (free, US EPA) remains the reference standard for complex extended-period simulation.
